Meet the Guides
Our docents are volunteers who studied the buildings, practiced the stories, and show up every tour day ready to share Garden Grove's past with you.
President
Karl grew up in Garden Grove and never lost his fascination with the town's original buildings. On tours he loves pointing out the hand-hewn beams in the Ware-Stanley House, the hidden hinges on the post office counter, and the way a one-room schoolhouse shaped a community. Ask him about the old water tower — he'll tell you three stories.
Favorite stop: The Walt Disney garage, because it proves world-changing ideas can start in a backyard.
Curator & Grant Coordinator
Debby joined after retiring from teaching and quickly became the village's expert on Victorian daily life. She demonstrates how pioneer families cooked, cleaned, gardened, and socialized, often with her own embroidered samples in hand. Her garden tours are a favorite each spring when the heritage roses bloom.
Favorite stop: The general store, because every object on the shelf was someone's practical solution to a real problem.
Digital Strategy Lead & Volunteer Coordinator
Sofia is a high school senior deeply passionate about history and preservation. As digital strategy lead & volunteer coordinator, she shapes our online presence, leads volunteer outreach initiatives, and ensures that local stories continue to educate future generations. In her spare time, Sofia enjoys playing tennis, piano, and board games with family, as well as reading.
Favorite stop: The Ware-Stanley House, stepping into this time capsule to admire the interiors and learn about the family is always a treat. The pump organ is a bonus!
Digital Marketing Lead
Eric supports the Society's online outreach, helping share event news, volunteer opportunities, and local history stories across digital channels.
Favorite stop: The Walt Disney garage, because it reminds us that big dreams often start in small spaces.
Publications Coordinator
Winston helps coordinate the Society's newsletters, print materials, and historical publications, making sure members and visitors stay informed.
Favorite stop: The general store, because it shows how everyday goods once connected a community.
Youth History Ambassador
Gaoyu is a dedicated Youth History Ambassador who brings energy and curiosity to the Stanley Ranch Museum. He helps with events, tours, and outreach, connecting younger visitors with Garden Grove's past.
Favorite stop: The Walt Disney garage, because it's inspiring to see where a dream as big as Disney first began.
Docent-led tours are offered on the first and third Sundays of the month at 1:30 p.m. Arrive at the General Store by 1:15 p.m. — no reservation needed, just $5 per person.
